"Artificial Intelligence" is a bit of a misnomer when it comes to generative AI as it exists today. None of these programs have intelligence of their own. What they are is very good at predicting things based on unimaginably large datasets.
There's no critical thinking involved, and the machine cannot weigh the options - it simply answers the question it has been asked, no matter how correct the answer is.
When "talking" to something like ChatGPT, think of it like an overeager intern - you've asked a question and expect an answer, and the generative AI is going to give you any answer it can find to avoid disappointing you, even if it's just stringing together words that feel like they make sense in the context.
