Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.  Its stated goals are "full control" of south and southeast Ukraine, and dismantling Ukraine as a state. Russia had concerns and perceived grievances relating to Ukraine dating back to its 1991 referendum for independence, the Orange Revolution of 2004 and the Maidan Revolution of 2013
