The end of the Cold War and the rise of globalization have increased interdependence among nations and blurred traditional boundaries between domestic and international affairs. Neither nations nor their residents can exist in isolation from developments in the rest of the world. The abilities to respond intelligently to what goes on abroad and to communicate effectively across cultural barriers are at a premium in almost every profession. The Global and International Studies Program at Manhattanville responds to this need of our globally interdependent world. It combines study in the disciplines of economics, political science and history with the insights of sociology and psychology and adds dimension of comparative literature and culture. Good communications skills in English and at least one foreign language help to produce graduates who aspire to careers in government, business, international organizations, journalism, academic
life and other professions.
