The Brownson Takeover

December 8-13, 1969

On December 8, 1969, eighteen students occupied Brownson Hall to call attention to racial tensions on campus and around the country. The students released a list of demands, including increased diversity of the student body and faculty as well as expanded scholarship opportunities for minority students.

The Brownson Takeover launched many discussions on campus, and President McCormack worked with the students for a resolution. The documents and photographs below explore the events in detail.
