Library: Policies

Conduct

Everyone in the Library must follow Manhattanville Community Standards including, but not limited to:  

  • Being respectful by limiting noise. 
  • Avoiding interference with student productivity.
  • Reading and following guidance on posted signs.
  • Following verbal instructions from Library staff and other campus authorities.

Violating Conduct policies may result in ejection from the Library and other University sanctions.

Access

Library access is for current Manhattanville University students, faculty, and staff.  Current Purchase College students may visit to borrow identified items in our collections.  All others must use this form to request an appointment to visit.  Hours for visitors are on weekdays between 9am-5pm.  Please visit a public library to use computers, printers, and work space. 

A Manhattanville ID card swipe is required to enter the Library building after 8pm.

Phone Usage

Cell phone conversations are allowed in the Library Cafe and outdoors, but prohibited elsewhere in the Library. Please silence ringers and text message alerts at all times.

Off-Campus Database Access

Off-campus database access is strictly limited to active Manhattanville faculty and staff, and matriculated students in the current academic term.

Borrowing

Manhattanville University students, faculty, and staff may borrow materials from the Library by presenting a valid Manhattanville ID card at the Circulation Desk. Some materials are for in-Library use only.

Loan Periods

Please note that periodicals, microfilm, and reference materials do not circulate.

Books from the Stacks Course reserves DVDs and Other Media

Students: 60 days

Faculty: 180 days

Staff: 60 days

Alumni: 60 days

3 hours; Reserves are for in-Library use by students, faculty, and staff

7 days

Sanctions:  Fines, Fees, and Suspension

Library sanctions ensure equitable materials availability to all members of the Manhattanville community.

Keeping items past their due date may result in suspended borrowing privileges, and charges for replacement and processing fees. The same applies to lost and damaged items. After items are returned the replacement charge and processing fee will be cleared, and borrowing privileges reinstated. Replacement fees vary widely according to the type of material loaned. Please pay special attention to the due date/time for course reserve materials.

Fine Rate: $1.00 per hour

Maximum late fine per item: $25.00

Borrowing may be suspended

Fine Rate: $1.00 per day

Maximum late fine per item: $15.00

Fines are payable by credit or debit card only. Payment can be made at the Circulation Desk during posted on-campus service hours.

Filming & Photography

All filming and photography in the Library building requires advance permission from the Library Director.
