The Writing Center-The Writing Center’s mission is to provide Manhattanville students with support at any stage of the writing process. The Writing Center offers in-person sessions as well as asynchronous and synchronous online tutoring appointments to all undergraduate and graduate students. We encourage you to schedule an appointment. The Writing Center is located in Library 122. The Writing Center is staffed by trained peer tutors (undergraduates) and professional tutors (graduate students, Learning Specialists, and Academic Writing faculty). You may also drop in in person (Library 122) , but please note that you may have to wait for a tutor to become available. Online tutoring is also available (in MS Teams). The Academic Resource Center- The mission of the Academic Resource Center is to support Manhattanville students’ academic success and growth as independent learners. The ARC provides free online tutoring to all undergraduate students in a wide variety of subjects in partnership with NetTutor. Students can meet one-on-one with professional tutors through NetTutor’s online platform, where live tutoring is available for many subjects 24/7. Students also have the option to schedule appointments in advance or drop off a question. Additionally, the ARC offers in-person workshops on goal setting, study skills, and time management throughout the academic year. Asynchronous online workshops are also available on our MS Teams platform.
The ARC is located in Library 118. Though the ARC does not offer in-person tutoring, students are encouraged to use this space for individual and group study, as well as to attend the Academic Edge workshops offered by the ARC in partnership with the Center for Student Accommodations, Library, and Student Health and Counseling.
What is NetTutor?
NetTutor is an online tutoring service that provides one-on-one virtual tutoring sessions with a professional tutor in a variety of subjects (please review their website for a complete subject list). Tutoring for many subjects is available 24/7. Students have the option to drop in and meet with a tutor, schedule an appointment, or receive asynchronous feedback by submitting a paper or a question. They have access to chat, audio, and video options, as well as an interactive whiteboard. Tutoring sessions are recorded and stored in student's online locker for each subject, so they can go back and review the material at a later date. NetTutor employs tutors who are college graduates with teaching or tutoring experience. Their tutors are vetted through subject aptitude tests, then trained to national standards in research-based tutoring methodologies, including best practices for tutoring English Language Learners and learners with disabilities. Log into Brightspace & select your course.
From the "Course Tools" menu on the top right of the page, select "NetTutor."
This will take you directly to the NetTutor site. (If the “NetTutor” link is not available on your course page, please contact your instructor to enable “NetTutor” on Brightspace).
Select “NetTutor Tutoring Center” and choose the subject in which you need a tutor.
