Progress towards Library Goals and Objectives

Fall 2021/Spring 2022:

  • Work with faculty to adopt Information Literacy outcomes and demonstrate Library instruction impact
  • Improve Library Web Site and Library Guide usability
  • Develop Library measures and metrics for the new College-wide Institutional Effectiveness Plan
  • Support curriculum development initiatives following the Institutional Effectiveness Review
  • Continue contributing to campus-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Finish interviewing and transcribing retired faculty members' oral histories

Completed- Summer, 2021

  • Auto-populate Blackboard course pages with a subject-appropriate Library Guide using a technology called LTI Integration
  • Begin updating Library Guides for academic programs, using a central style guide
  • Expand Nursing and Health Sciences resources to support new programs, including graduate courses

Completed- Spring, 2021

  • Ran a faculty development workshop; topics included using Open Educational Resources and streaming films
  • Piloted a video tutorial library to support student learning
  • Expanded the Black Voices exhibit as part of Diversity/Equity/Inclusion initiatives
  • Partnered with the Westchester Library System to raise the profile of Manhattanville College via online events promoting faculty authors
  • Supported the School of Nursing and Health Sciences through initial CCNE accreditation
  • Experimented with assessing online instruction workshops
  • Created Library Development Plans for new academic programs
  • Built an electronic portfolio featuring thirteen retiring faculty members
  • Added Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening building hours in response to December survey feedback
  • Streamlined Information Literacy learning outcomes from six to four
  • Deployed the first exhibits showcasing the new Black Voices collection
  • Finished work on the Evidence Inventory for the Middle States Self-Study and uploaded documents for review
  • Assigned a liaison librarian to work with faculty and staff on Design Thinking
  • Created an online guide page with background and context for the Institutional Effectiveness Review
  • Launched a new online guide for Social and Emotional Learning, as requested by the Faculty Committee on the Library

Future improvements-

  • Completing phased building renovations
    • Replacing obsolete furniture and adding outlets in the Quiet Study Room
    • Updating the Library Cafe; and advocating to increase Cafe service hours
    • Reconfiguring the Reference Commons and Library Service Desk

Previous Updates

Completed- Fall, 2020:

  • Reconfigured Library services with fewer staff and resources
  • Adapted College COVID safety protocols for Library use, and developed Library-specific protocols
  • Expanded use of text and video chat for Reference services
  • Migrated instruction workshops online using multiple technology platforms
  • Rolled out Curbside Pickup service for books and inter-library loans
  • Co-sponsored a project to educate the Manhattanville community on voting issues
  • Engaged in dialogue on diversity and inclusion in Library collections; planned a Black Voices collection and exhibit
  • Acquired Nursing resources and built a subject-specific guide
  • Designed the MSCHE Evidence Inventory ahead of our re-accreditation visit
  • Ran an informal survey to assess Library service quality and user needs during the COVID pandemic

Completed 2019-20 academic year

  • Created a process for students to archive their COVID pandemic experiences online
  • Moved Library services online to compensate for extended COVID-19 related campus closure
  • Migrated to OCLC WorldShare Management System for improved access to e-resources, workflow efficiencies, and long-term cost savings
    • Full system migration project completed remotely due to COVID-19
  • Implemented unified login for ILLiad Interlibrary Loan
  • Added Wi-fi access on stack tiers 3, 4, and 5
  • Added new resources for Nursing and Health Sciences
  • Supported the First Year Common Reading
  • Simplified the General Research Guide that appears within all Blackboard course pages

Completed 2018-19:academic year

  • Simplified and expanded off-campus database access
  • Added a "Did You Know" box on the library home page.  This is to increase awareness of requested services already in place.
  • Improved performance and stability of computers in the stacks and Reference area; moved Macintosh computers to the first floor
  • Clarified noise policies in public spaces with improved signage and policy language
  • Upgraded touch-screen public scanners
  • Reduced spending on database subscriptions, in cooperation with faculty
  • Added more streaming video databases
