Checking Out ILL Books

When a patron comes to check out an ILL book:

  1. Find the book on the ILL shelf (shelf #14): the books should be in alphabetical order by the patron's last name
  2. Fill out the sheet on the clipboard: the TN number can be found on the top of the yellow slip that is attached to the cover of the ILL book, as well as the date and the patron's signature.
  3. Hand the book to the patron (no need to check out in WMS or desensitize)

Checking In ILL Books

When a patron returns an ILL book:

  1. Give the book to a Library Staff member to check for any damages
  2. Once they have ok'd the return use the date stamp to record the date on the yellow slip attached to the book; if the date stamp is not working record the date by hand
  3. Place the book in the ILL basket (shelf #13)

What is ILLiad?

The Library's Collections & Technical Services Department, under the direction of Catherine Medeot, handles the administration of the library's ILLiad system. ILLiad stands for Interlibrary Loan Internet Accessible Database.  This extremely popular service is managed by Claire Tomkin, Interlibrary Loan Manager.

Patrons who are part of the Manhattanville College community can use the ILLiad service to request books, DVDs and periodical articles that the Manhattanville Library does not own. Below are the specifics of our ILL service:

  1. Items ordered through ILL will be delivered to the library at no extra cost.
  2. Centralized pick up and return of items is handled through the Library Circulation Desk.
  3. Physical books generally arrive within 2 weeks, but they may arrive sooner.
  4. Journal articles are usually received electronically in 2-3 business days through the patron's ILLiad account.

Interlibrary loan material must be requested through the Interlibrary Loan link on the Library's Home Page. Patrons will use the same username and password they use to log on to Blackboard.  Please visit the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk if you need assistance in setting up your account for the first time.

Setting up an ILL account allows you to:

  1. View your current requests and determine the delivery status of book and DVD requests.
  2. View all of your previous requests for a fixed amount of time, which is usually at least one year. This feature can be invaluable when creating citations and bibliographies at a later date.
  3. Obtain direct electronic access to journal articles that you have requested.  After accessing your ILLiad account, click on the link in the left-hand column entitled "Electronically Received Articles."
  4. Renew your book and DVDs online, provided that the lending library permits renewals. All renewals must be requested at least 3 days before the actual due date.

Please remember that Interlibrary Loan is a privilege extended to you through the Manhattanville College Library.  Library patrons agree to follow all ILL policies and will be held responsible for all fines, as well as damaged or lost items.

Alumni and Library Community members are not eligible to use the Interlibrary Loan service and will need to submit requests through their local public library.
